Arkansas City, KS - This past Tuesday the volunteers of South Central Kansas Medical Center's Auxiliary celebrated another successful year during their annual Christmas luncheon. The men and women of the Auxiliary volunteer at the hospital five days a week, performing a variety of tasks. In addition, they represent the hospital during several community events such as the Health and Safety Fair.

City Commissioner Jay Warren addressed the approximately 50 volunteers and staff who were attending the luncheon.

"The most valuable gift we can ever give someone is our time. And I want to thank you for all the great things you do. Large and small, they all have a meaning to the families and the individuals that you help," Commissioner Warren said.

The Auxiliary also contributes to the hospital each year through monetary donations. They raise funds throughout the year through a variety of activities including bake sales, holiday sales, and operating the hospital gift shop. This year over $9,000 was provided for facility equipment purchases and healthcare scholarships. Through these donations, SCKMC was able to purchase equipment for the surgery, intensive care, pharmacy, lab, maintenance and infection prevention departments.

"The board recognizes the volunteer time which you put forth. They also recognize how much you contribute to us in terms of the gifts of equipment and all that you do for the hospital. It does make a difference. You touch a lot of lives and you do it out of the generosity of your hearts," said Steve Perkins, SCKMC's Chief Executive Officer.

The SCKMC Auxiliary will be holding their final fundraiser for 2014 on the morning of Friday, December 19th. The members have baked more than 2,000 cookies that will be decoratively wrapped and sold for $8.00 per two dozen cookies. The Christmas cookie fundraiser will take place in the hospital lobby, located at 6401 Patterson Parkway in Ark City. For more information on SCKMC's Auxiliary, including the Christmas cookie fundraiser, or how to become a member, contact the medical center at 620-442-2500.
